21日火曜日の朝（現地時間）、人気フライドチキンチェーン｢Popeyes｣の株価は、12.67ドル（約1440円）の上昇を見せ（19.16%増）、78.79ドル（約8960円）となった。Restaurant Brands Internationalに18億ドル（約2050億）で買収されるというニュースが伝えられたためだ。Restaurant Brands Internationalは、ハンバーガーチェーン｢Burger King｣やカナダのドーナツチェーン｢Tim Horton｣の親会社。
買収のための資金は手元にある現金と、J.P.モルガンおよびウェルズ・ファーゴから調達する。買収は今年の4月上旬までに完了する見通しだ。
